VCS Bargaining Report #1
VCS Bargaining Report #1 The CWA and IBEW Bargaining Committee met earlier this afternoon to open 2011 negotiations. VCS continues to sing the same old tired song about not being competitive with non-union cable companies. VCS wants to erode the gains made by the Unions in previous rounds of bargaining. Our members at VCS must move forward, not backward. This fight will only be won in the field. Your bargaining committees will fight hard everyday to achieve a fair contract and with a solid membership behind us our goals can be achieved. The committee is scheduled to meet with the company again tomorrow. Following are the Unions’ opening remarks. Opening Statement – Verizon Connected Solutions Bargaining Over the next several days the CWA and IBEW will make many proposals which we have developed after consulting with our members about their concerns and their experience working for this Company. We will make a proposal to fold the remaining technicians employed by Verizon Connected Solutions into the Verizon core agreement. The creation of the VCS subsidiary at the time of inception, made sense in the fact additional work would be marketed for the bargaining unit. No longer does that appear to be VCS’ objective. For over 15 years this subsidiary has simply been the contractor of choice for the core bargaining unit’s telephony work. Now is the time to bring all of these workers into the core bargaining unit. In the area
of benefits, we have major concerns maintaining
the security of our pensions and health
care. Similarly, we recognize that the costs of health coverage continue to increase at a rate well in excess of inflation. This is not a justification for shifting costs to our members and reducing the share of future costs for the corporation. This will not change the trend. It will just assure that everyone will pay more, and get poorer quality as a result. Finally, Verizon is a Company that can well afford to share its vast wealth, to meet all the demands we make and to include substantial wage increases as well. Our members are the professionals that make Verizon a success in the competitive marketplace. Our knowledge, skills and experience make Verizon the company of choice for quality service. We expect disagreements at this table but when all is said and done we plan on reaching a fair and equitable settlement. One where the Company remains profitable and also one where our members share in the profits so we can all move forward together. We demand a fair share of the proceeds for our labor and we will do what is necessary to win a good contract that meets our member’s needs. |

Bargaining Report #4 The Union and Company met today and it appears by their proposals that the Company expects us to go backwards on everything from Benefits to Wages and Working Conditions. The Company also proposed to drastically reduce the maximum number of paid sick days per year and also freeze pensions effective December 31, 2011. The Company expects us to go back to day one in 1995 and accept their retrogressive demands which will negatively impact not only you but your families going forward. It is time for each of us to stand up and let VCS know that we are not going back to 1995 but we fully intend to move forward from where we are today. It is time for each of you to let the Company know that enough is enough and let them know that you have no intentions to go backwards when it took so much to get to where we are today. The Committees will be in recess until Monday July 18, 2011 at which time we will reconvene and continue negotiations until a fair and equitable contract is obtained for everyone in VCS. Your support will make the difference so start today by telling the Company you will not accept their retrogressive demands. Mobilize!

Your Bargaining Team met today with VCS and presented additional proposals to the Company. The six demands that were presented by your committee related to the following:
Grievance
Procedure
Overtime
Sick Time
Light
Duty Assignment
Your committee is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow June 20th at 10:00 am for a presentation by the Company concerning their overall retrogressive Health Care Proposal. It’s time for everyone to understand that VCS is not playing games when it comes to their retrogressive demands to date. It is clear that the Company is demanding givebacks in every aspect of your working life. From sick days to overtime to health care, the Company is intent on moving everyone backwards no matter how much it hurts each individual and their families. You give to this Company everyday but they want more no matter what the cost is to you. It’s time to stand up and tell the Company that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and that WE WILL NOT GO BACKWARDS.
REMEMBER IT’S ALL ABOUT GOOD UNION JOBS!!
Now more than ever we need to mobilize!

VCS Bargaining Report #7
July 20, 2011
Your
Bargaining Team met with the Company today to
discuss their “healthcare” proposal and
presented the Company with numerous questions
regarding this totally retrogressive Plan. It
is evident that the Company wants you to accept
a Health Care Plan that requires you to pay a
major portion of your hard earned wages to buy
into this substandard, retrogressive plan and
then pay more of your wages in co-pays and
out-of-pocket expenses. Not only has the
Company proposed that each of you pay
considerably more for this “Retrogressive” plan
but they also expect you to accept less
coverage than we have had for
years.
Your committee is in recess until
Monday July 25, 2011 at 10:00 am. We must stand
together now more than ever to fight back these
attacks on each of us and our families. It is
time for each of us to stand up and tell VCS
that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and that WE WILL NOT GO
BACK. We must stand together now to fight back
these attacks on us and our families!!!

July 26, 2011
Your Bargaining Team met with VCS today. The Company Rejected the Union’s proposal dealing with the Improvement of Your Health Care Benefits as well as suggested improvements to the current language concerning Sick Days and Paid Days on Disability. The Union also presented a number of demands to the Company dealing with several issues. Some of those issues dealt with in our proposals were related to the following:
Overtime
Schedules
Grievance
Procedure
Vacations
Tuition Assistance
Sunday Pay Treatment
Contract
Labor
Holidays
Your committee is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow July 27th at 10:00 am. We need each of you to send the Company a strong message that the proposals that they are proposing will not be accepted by us because we will not go back. We will move forward and protect ourselves and our families. Please contact your Local and participate in the rally in New York City on Saturday July 30th so the Company clearly understands we will not Go Back!!

July 28, 2011
Your Bargaining Team met with VCS today to discuss more proposals. The Company continues to Reject the proposals that your Union has presented to them on your behalf. The Company rejected five more proposals today just as they have done with almost every proposal that your Union has presented. The ones that they rejected today dealt with the following issues:
Weekly Payday
Improvement of Overtime Language
Light
Duty Assignments
Grievance
Procedure
Holiday Pay Treatment
Your committee continues to review the Company’s proposals that we have received. We will continue to respond to their retrogressive demands and also continue to fight to make improvements to our current contract. With your help in the field we will prevail. We need each of you to stand up and let the Company know that retrogression is not part of our agenda. We plan to move forward together and not backwards. We need you to make every effort to attend the rally in New York City on Saturday July 30th so we can send the Company a strong message that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and that we are one and will not be divided.

VCS Bargaining Report #11
July 31, 2011
Your Bargaining Team met with VCS today to discuss more proposals. The Company continues to Reject-Reject-Reject everything that your Bargaining Committee has placed on the table. Today they rejected EIGHT more proposals. These are proposals that are meant to improve your life both on and off the job. It doesn’t appear that the Company cares about what would help improve their employees’ lives but it is clear that all the Company wants to do is Take-Take-Take and every one of these take backs would negatively impact you and your family in some way.
The Company is still demanding that you pay more money out of your pocket for less healthcare coverage. They continue to push their demand to freeze your Pension Plan effective December 31, 2011. The Company is still demanding to dramatically change the number of paid sick days you would receive per year and they want to remove all caps on overtime. Their take back list goes on and on and at this time there is no end in sight. Each of you needs to let the Company know between now and Saturday August 6th that these take backs will not happen and WE WILL NOT GO BACK.
Your committee continues to review the Company’s proposals that we have received. We will continue to do everything in our power to reach a fair and equitable agreement that we can all be proud of and with your help this will be achieved. Tell the Company ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!

401(K) Contributions Your Bargaining Committee reviewed all of the rejected proposals and made counterproposals on some of the Union’s proposals that were rejected by the Company. We need to keep the pressure on the Company and let them know that we will not go back. We will not stop until we get a fair contract and with your help from the field we will accomplish that together. REMEMBER, ACCORDING TO THE COMPANY ALL OF THEIR PROPOSED CHANGES ARE JUST “MINOR ADJUSTMENTS.”

VCS Bargaining Report #13 It’s Groundhog Day at VCS Bargaining. Once again the Union sat through another session of Company Rejections today. Every proposal, except one, that the Union has made has been REJECTED by VCS. Your Bargaining Team has made
counterproposals for the majority of the ones
that the Company REJECTED in an effort to
improve our current Agreement. I know
this will come as a surprise but the only thing
we have heard from the Company concerning our
counterproposals is REJECTED. We need to keep the pressure on the Company
and let them know that we will not go
back. We must turn up the heat on the Company between now and August 6th so they clearly understand that whatever it takes WE WILL PREVAIL. Our next Rejection session with the Company
is scheduled for 11:00am on August 3rd.

#14 Your committee met with the Company again
today in an attempt to negotiate a fair and
equitable Agreement by Saturday August
6th. Again today your committee received REJECTIONS from the Company concerning two more of our proposals but we considered this a good days since the Company only REJECTED two proposals. We’ve got a lot of work to do by the end of the day on Saturday August 6th but your committee is prepared to do whatever it takes to accomplish the goal of negotiating a fair and equitable Agreement that does not move us back to the dark ages. We need your continued support in the field and we need each of you to clearly tell the Company that we won’t go BACK. Between now and August 6th each of us have
to give it our all in order to assure that the
Company removes every retrogressive demand that
they have put across the table that will impact
each of you and your families in a negative
fashion. Let them know “WE WILL NOT GO

VCS Bargaining Report #15
We have seen no movement on the Company’s part to date. Every Retrogressive proposal that they placed on the table is still there. The Company has shown no interest in moving on any of their Retrogressive demands and we can assure you that your committee will not rest until they are removed. We must stand up to this Company and let them know that we will not tolerate the demands that they are currently attempting to force on each of you. We must turn up the heat in the field. With August 6th just around the corner, we need to pull out all the stops so the Company clearly understands that we will not rollover and accept what they call “Minor Adjustments”. As the old saying goes “It’s Time To Rock And Roll” and we must continue those actions until this GREEDY Company clearly understands that they have made a big mistake by trying to force feed these retrogressive demands upon each of us knowing that they will negatively impact us and our families. The time is now for each of us to Stand Up
and tell this Company “WE WILL NOT GO BACK”.
With all of us working together we will prevail
and we can then finally put these retrogressive
demands exactly where they belong. It’s all about good Union Jobs!!! MOBILIZE - MOBILIZE - MOBILIZE |

VCS Bargaining Report #16 Your committee met with the Company today but again there was no effort on the Company’s part to resolve one single issue that remains on the table. When we adjourned, the Union told the Company that we were prepared to meet again today and all they needed to do was give us a call but we still haven’t heard back from the Company about another meeting today. It’s a shame that this Company has no more respect for each of you than they have demonstrated during this round of negotiations. It is quite clear at this point that they are not concerned about reaching a fair and equitable settlement by 11:59 pm tomorrow night. There is no excuse for a Company that is this profitable to treat its dedicated employees the way they are doing in these negotiations. It’s time for every one of us to take off the gloves and show them the same degree of respect that they are showing us and our families. We have approximately 30 hours to get our
message to this Company that WE WILL NOT GO
BACK and WE WILL NOT ACCEPT THEIR RETROGRESIVE
DEMANDS. It’s time for each of us to
STAND UP AND BE COUNTED and clearly tell the
Company that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. PREPARE YOUR GROUNDHOGS FOR OUR NEXT MOVE AND LET THEM SEIZE THE MOMENT!! It’s all about good Union Jobs!!! Now more than ever we need to mobilize! MOBILIZE - MOBILIZE -

VCS Bargaining Report #17 August 6, 2011 Your committee has met three times with the Company today and they still have not removed any of their RETROGRESSIVE demands from the table. It is obvious to your Committee that the Company is not ready to resolve the many issues that remain on the table. Each of you must send the Company the strongest message possible that WE WILL NOT GO BACK. Keep up the great work each of you are doing in your support for this committee and together we will prevail. We will be meeting with the Company soon and we will continue to push for a Fair and Equitable Agreement. As soon as we meet with the Company, we will send out an update. We need everyone to let the Company know where they can place their RETROGRESSIVE proposals and each of us needs to let the Company know that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. We need to keep the pressure on the Company and let them know that we will not go back. We will not stop until we get a fair contract and with your help we will accomplish that together. At the conclusion of these discussions, the meeting was adjourned until Friday August 12th. Again today the Company has done nothing to do away with the RETROGRESSIVE demands they have on the table. It does not appear that the Company has heard our message as to where they need to put these demands. We need to tell them as strongly as we can
what they can do with them and also let them
know that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. It is time
for the Company to get serious about coming to
the table and negotiating a FAIR AND EQUITABLE
agreement. To this point they can’t even
spell those words much less understand what
they mean and it is up to each of us to teach
them what these words mean now.

Their position on these issues is totally ridiculous and there is no justification for these TAKEBACKS. This corporation is very profitable and each of us deserves to share in that profitability. The Company made their first RETROGRESSIVE demand on June 23rd and to this date they have made no attempt to remove any of them. Each of you needs to clearly tell this Company that they MUST get these demands off the table so we can begin to move forward and reach a FAIR AND EQUITABLE settlement. Each of these demands would have a negative impact on you and your family. This Company is very profitable because of your hard work and there is no reason other than GREED for these demands to still be on the table. It is up to each of us to continue to clearly tell VCS where they can place these RETROGRESSIVE demands. Each of us needs to keep the pressure on this Company both on and off the picket lines. The Company has absolutely made no effort to resolve a single issue to date. They have refused to pull one of their many RETROGRESSIVE demands off the table. They continue to push their agenda of taking us all back to the 1990’s when the first contract was negotiated in what is now VCS. They continue in their attempt to take away almost every gain that has been made through the years with no regard to what that will do to each of you and your family. To date the only thing that this Company has demonstrated is pure GREED with no regard to what type of impact that GREED will have on you. It is time for each of us to tell VCS that they need to get serious and sit down at the table and negotiate a FAIR AND EQUITABLE agreement. You are the ones that generate the profits for VCS and each of you deserves to share in those profits. We must continue to clearly tell VCS where they can place the RETROGRESSIVE demands that remain on the table. It is obvious what the Company is trying to do to both CWA and IBEW and to the members of both but each of us will never let that happen. They would love to break each Union but the Company has totally underestimated our resolve. The only backs that will be broken will be the GREEDY CORPORATE RATS that run this corporation. We must send the message very clearly to those individuals that they need to get serious and begin to bargain in GOOD FAITH. Once that happens and we are able to negotiate a FAIR AND EQUITABLE agreement, we can all go back to work with our heads held high. We can also let workers know from coast to coast that these fights can be won when WE STAND TOGETHER to FIGHT the RETROGRESSIVE demands of GREEDY CORPORATE RATS no matter what industry they represent and that it is time to take back the MIDDLE CLASS. There were discussions concerning several different subjects and during these discussions your Union Bargaining Team presented the Company with a new Health Care proposal that would improve your current coverage. The Company also gave counterproposals to some of their earlier proposals that had been rejected by your Committee. These newest proposals by VCS were improvements over their original retrogressive demands but they are still not where they should be considering the profitability of Verizon. The Company is reviewing this information and assigning a cost to our proposal and when they have assigned a cost to this item we will reconvene for further discussions. Also, your bargaining team is putting together a counter offer on the Company’s TIPP demand. It is still obvious that the Company wants to strip almost every GAIN that the Union has made through the years and by doing this the Company will destroy your ability to maintain the standard of living that you and your family are able to enjoy today. It is time for each of us to double our efforts in our MOBILIZATION activities so we can send a strong message to Verizon that we will not accept their RETROGRESSIVE PROPOSALS and we will do whatever it takes to accomplish that goal. VCS Bargaining Report 32 November 9, 2011 Your VCS Bargaining Team met with the Company today to further discuss the many outstanding issues. Today two items were discussed and they were TIPP and Overtime Caps. The Company again revised their demand pertaining to the TIPP payout. The Company also presented the Union a revised proposal dealing with Overtime Caps and this proposal, as well as prior proposals, continues to be RETROGRESSIVE in nature. Your Committee informed the Company that we would review their proposals and give them feedback at our next meeting. We are scheduled to reconvene negotiations on Monday November 14, 2011 and then we are scheduled to meet with the Company the rest of the week in an attempt to resolve some of the many RETROGRESSIVE demands that remain on the VCS table. VCS Bargaining Report 33 November 15, 2011 Your VCS Bargaining Team met with the Company yesterday and today to further discuss the many outstanding issues. We discussed several issues with the Company but were unable to remove the RETROGRESSIVE demands that are still on the table since June. One of the issues that we did discuss today was TIPP but we were not successful in our attempt to find common ground versus the proposal the Company currently has on the table that is based on performance. We will continue to work to have every RETROGRESSIVE DEMAND that the Company currently has on the table removed and placed where it actually belongs. Your continued support is essential for all of us to ward off this attack that the Company is instituting on each of us and our families. What they are attempting to do is destroy the standard of living that everyone has worked so hard to obtain. It is up to each of us to fight back to make sure we do not go back to the first contract that was negotiated in 1995 and in fact in many cases what the Company is proposing is worse than the first contract. We must continue to send a strong message to the Company that we won’t go back and the only direction that we are interested in going is forward. With your continued support we will prevail and move forward together. We will meet with the Company again tomorrow as well as the rest of the week and we will report to you what takes place. Again, we need your continued support to beat back the Company’s attack on your economic future and the future of your family. TOGETHER WE WILL PREVAIL!! IT’S TIME TO TAKE BACK THE MIDDLE CLASS!! VCS Bargaining Report 34 November 28, 2011 Your VCS Bargaining Team met with the Company today to discuss several of the many outstanding issues that remain unresolved. Three of the issues that were discussed today included Vacation Modification, Enhancements to the Leave of Absence Policy and the possible Formulation of a Light Duty Policy. At this point there has been no agreement on any of these issues but we will continue to discuss them in an attempt to resolve each of them in a satisfactory manner. There are still a large number of RETROGRESSIVE demands on the VCS table and your Committee will continue to meet with the Company until we can either resolve them or have the Company withdraw them. In order to prevail, we need your continued support and we need each of you to let the Company know on a daily basis that WE WILL NOT GO BACK. We will continue to negotiate until we can reach a FAIR AND EQUITABLE AGREEMENT that helps to move every VCS employee and their family forward. Your Committee and the Company are schedule to meet again Tuesday morning and we will work hard to get the Company to wake up and begin to treat each of you as a valued employee versus a second class citizen and the best way for the Company to do that is by removing the ridiculous demands that they want us to accept. VCS Bargaining Report 35 December 2, 2011 Your VCS Bargaining Team met with the Company again on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and continued to discuss the many outstanding issues that remain on the table. To date, these discussions have not generated any positive results since up to now the Company’s position has been that the Union either accepts what they propose or it’s nothing. In other words, IT’S THEIR WAY OR THE HIGHWAY. With what they currently have on the table, we cannot reach a FAIR AND EQUITABLE agreement. Until they pull every RETROGRESSIVE demand off the table it will be very difficult to make any progress. We cannot and will not allow the Company to reduce each of you to second class citizens which will negatively impact you and your family for years to come. We will be meeting with the Company next
week and we will continue to negotiate with the
Company in an attempt to satisfactorily resolve
our differences. Your continued support
is essential in order for your Committee to
resolve these issues. We need each of you
on a daily basis to let the Company know THAT
WE WILL NOT GO BACK. ITS TIME TO TAKE BACK THE MIDDLE

VCS Bargaining Report 36 December 9, 2011 Your VCS Bargaining Team met with the Company on Tuesday and Wednesday and again nothing was accomplished in our attempt to resolve the many outstanding issues that remain on the table. We were also scheduled to meet with the Company on Thursday but that meeting never took place because the Company was waiting on some additional information pertaining to one of their counter-proposals that they were going to present concerning Healthcare. We are scheduled to meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week in our continued attempt to reach a FAIR AND EQUITABLE agreement with VCSI. To date, these discussions have not generated any positive results since up to now the Company’s position has been that the Union either accepts what they propose or it’s nothing but your Committee is determined and we will continue in our efforts to have every RETROGRESSIVE demand removed from the table. Your continued support is essential in order for your Committee to resolve these issues. We need each of you on a daily basis to let this Company know THAT WE WILL NOT GO BACK. It is up to each of us to keep the pressure on this Company until they finally realize that we will not accept their RETROGRESSIVE demands and that the only direction we will move is FORWARD. Part of that pressure must be directed at the Verizon Wireless Stores in your area. We must be out there at these Stores, under the direction of your Local, passing out flyers to the general public on a daily basis letting them know what Verizon is attempting to do to all of us and about their GREED. If we do this at these Stores the Company will begin to feel the results of our efforts. THIS IS A MUST!! Thanks for your support up to now and with your continued support WE WILL PREVAIL!! VCS Bargaining Report 37 December 14, 2011 Your VCS Bargaining Team met with the Company on Tuesday at which time the Company presented your Committee a “package” that they wanted us to consider. This was the Company’s “attempt” to move the bargaining process forward but unfortunately the majority of their items in this “package” still included RETROGRESSIVE demands that your Committee has rejected previously. Today your Committee closely reviewed the Company’s “package” and will continue to do so and prior to our next meeting we will prepare our response to them. It does not appear that the Union and
Company will meet again prior to January 1,
2012 and we hope between now and then that the
Company will learn what the definition of
RETROGRESSIVE is and upon our return to the
table they discontinue their efforts in that
direction. We will continue to work
towards a FAIR AND EQUITABLE agreement and with
your continued support we can accomplish that
goal. Thanks for your support up to now and with your continued support WE WILL PREVAIL!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A JOYOUS NEW YEAR!!! IT’S TIME TO TAKE BACK THE MIDDLE

VCS Bargaining Report 38 January 12, 2012 Your VCS Bargaining Team met with the Company last week and again this week and to date there has been no real progress in resolving our many differences. During this period of negotiations your Committee has made numerous attempts to find some common ground that we can agree to with the Company that will move each of you forward so that you and your family can continue the way of life that you have come to enjoy and one that you certainly deserve. To date, if VCS got their way everyone would move backwards and immediately be hit with a reversal of the standard of living that each of you have worked so hard to achieve for yourself and your family. We cannot allow the Company to accomplish their goal to reverse many years of progress that we have experienced and send us back to the mid 90’s and the formation of this Company. Everyone has fought hard through the years to get us to where we are today and we cannot allow the GREED of this Company to send each of us back to the dark ages as it relates to our employment history. We must stick together and continue to show this Company where they can put their RETROGRESSIVE demands and clearly let them know that we will not allow them to destroy our future with VCS. We still need each of you on a daily basis to let this Company know THAT WE WILL NOT GO BACK. We must continue to pressure the Company and part of that pressure must be directed at the Verizon Wireless Stores in your area. We must be out there at these Stores, under the direction of your Local, passing out flyers to the general public on a daily basis letting them know what Verizon is attempting to do to all of us and about their GREED. VCS Bargaining Report 39 January 27, 2012 Your VCS Bargaining Team met with the Company again this week and to date there has still been no real progress in resolving our many differences. Yesterday the Company gave us their second proposal concerning Health Care Benefits and at first glance this is another RETROGRESSIVE proposal that will cost each of you much more for a benefit that will offer less coverage for you and your family. Your Committee will thoroughly review this proposal and begin formulating a counter offer to this Company proposal. The Union is scheduled to meet with the Company again during the week of February 6th at which time we will discuss this RETROGRESSIVE proposal that is being offered again by VCS. We will also begin to formulate a counter offer that will not reverse many years of progress. It is up to each of us to let this Company know where they can put their current proposal dealing with Health Care as well as every RETROGRESSIVE demand that remains on the table. We must double our efforts to convince this Company that we will not GO BACK and that we need to move FORWARD together to secure our future and that of VCS. Your assistance is essential to accomplish our goals in this round of negotiations. We cannot allow the Company to accomplish their goal to reverse many years of progress that we have experienced and send us back to the mid 90’s and the formation of this Company. We must stick together and clearly let them know that we will not allow them to destroy our future with VCS.
